President Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meeting with PM of New Zealand

LOKADEWATANEWS.COM – President Joko Widodo held a bilateral meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern at the Kimpton Maa-Lai Hotel, Bangkok, Friday morning 18 November 2022.
 
In his introductory remarks, President Jokowi expressed his hope that the spirit of G20 cooperation could continue at the APEC Summit this time. “APEC must be part of efforts to accelerate economic recovery in the Asia and Pacific region,” said President Jokowi.
 
During the meeting, President Jokowi discussed three main issues, namely strengthening economic cooperation, cooperation in energy transition, and strengthening cooperation in the Pacific region.
 
“We need to encourage market access for trade between the two countries, especially in agricultural commodities, minerals, iron and steel, and plastics as well as cooperation in agriculture and halal certification,” said the President.
 
In the field of energy transition cooperation, President Jokowi said Indonesia continues to strengthen its energy transition efforts using new and renewable energy.
 
“I invite New Zealand businessmen to invest in the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia,” said President Jokowi.
 
Meanwhile in the area of ​​regional cooperation, President Jokowi said Indonesia was committed to promoting development cooperation in the Pacific. For this reason, next year, Indonesia will encourage the engagement of Pacific countries with ASEAN.
 
“I want New Zealand to be able to become a bridge connecting the partnership between ASEAN and the Pacific in the Indo-Pacific region,” said the President.
 
Meanwhile, in his introduction, PM Jacinda expressed his appreciation for holding the G20 in Indonesia and congratulated Indonesia on chairing ASEAN 2023.
 
“New Zealand is ready to support Indonesia’s leadership in ASEAN next year,” said PM Jacinda.
 
Also accompanying President Jokowi in the meeting were the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
