NUSA TENGGARA BARAT – LOKADEWATANWES.COM – President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Bintang Bano Dam in West Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, on Friday, January 14, 2022. The President hopes that the dam can support food security and meet raw water needs in NTB Province.
“We hope that this dam will support the availability of water in West Sumbawa, support food security in NTB Province and can also meet raw water needs, especially in dry areas in NTB Province,” the President said in his remarks.
The Head of State explained that water is the key to food security, food independence, and food sovereignty. This is what underlies the construction of a number of dams throughout the country.
“The Bintang Bano Dam is the 29th dam that we have inaugurated since 2015. God willing, by the end of 2024, a total of 57 dams will be completed throughout Indonesia,” the President explained.
The dam, which has been built since 2015 and cost Rp1.44 trillion, is known to have a capacity of 76 million cubic meters with an inundation area of 256 hectares and is capable of irrigating 6,700 hectares of rice fields.
On this occasion, President Jokowi accompanied by Mrs. Iriana also released the cork fish and boarded a boat on the dam. The President was seen rowing the boat along with several rowing athletes in the same boat.
Before heading back to Central Lombok Regency, the President and Mrs. Iriana took the time to plant guava trees in the Bintang Bano Dam area.
Also accompanying the President and Mrs. Iriana in the inauguration of the Bintang Bano Dam were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Governor of NTB Zulkieflimansyah, and Regent of West Sumbawa Musyafirin.
